Most people have a particular charity that they support; usually they donate to a charity that they have a special connection with through personal experience or simply because they have a soft spot for those who benefit from the charity.
The support that charities receive is usually through donations of money or goods to be sold through the charities’ shops, or through members of the public volunteering to spend their time helping out where needed.
Animal charities receive a lot of public support because we are largely a nation of animal lovers. Volunteering for an animal charity can be a very rewarding experience. The type of work you might want to do or that is available could range from posting leaflets advertising local events to support the charity, to walking and feeding animals in your local animal shelter.
By volunteering your time, you will make more of the money donated to charity available for the animals. If you didn’t volunteer, the charity would have to pay to employ someone to do the work and that would not be financially feasible: few charities could ever afford to pay enough people to replace their volunteers. ACE – Animal Care Education – Central Mass is an all volunteer organization and 100% of donations is used directly for the care of homeless animals.
Volunteering for an animal charity is also a great way to spend time with animals if you cannot have a pet of your own. The opportunities are endless. Please check out our website or email any questions you have about becoming a volunteer.
